Tattler - Day 1

Day one started as is becoming tradition blowing and clouding, leaving all on the dock to wonder what the day had instore for them, hopefully a load of fish!

Both the Bahamian teams drew the Somerset boats and so headed straight from Rosemont to Robinsons Mariner to pick up their rides.

The captains had smiles on their faces, so that's a good thing.

SHAC drew Reel Hot for their first outing and as usual they left first. Fiona was again checking the weather forecast on her phone before they got underway.

BAC got Playmate for day 1 and David Skinner was hoping to come home with a few whoppers.

And can you guess whom this belongs to? Yes it's Foxy & the Stiff Rods who once again had Reel Addiction on the first day. It looked like they planned to spend the week on the boat instead of a day.

Mark Mitchell could only standby and watch.

We love you Wayne, and if the others want to beat your team, they need to bribe someone to find out your secret chum recipe.

The last boat to leave the dock was Albatross, as who did he have onboard again for day 1 Brain Lines, Neil McKinney and Dean Rea, but it wasn't David Lines (last years teammate) who was the final person to turn up but Brian, he wasn't late though, he had 5 minutes to spare and came armed with KFC and his coffee.

Dean commented that the Lines are always late. He's Bermudian Dean, what more can one say!

And so by 6.30am all boats had left SPBC to head to the rendezvous point.

Peter Rans was first home with Three Reel Anglers before 4pm as they stayed close to home. Their total haul for the day was a 20lb yellowfin, they were happy to know that the bogga grip they weighed the fish on was true.

Next in was Craigin Curtis with the Stinky Rods - word on the dock is that Wayne's concoction is a biohazard and he needs to clean it up like BP, oh and stay down wind of the other boats! I guess the fish love it as Danny caught 2 wahoo weighing 60.7 and 41.4 lb plus and a yellowfin released. The fumes mustta gotten to them as they wrote down the wahoos that gotta away and the time.

You better start thinking about what you would like from Crisson Danny as you already have a watch, there's a lady that would love some jewelry! Wayne managed a yellowfin release and Richard a couple blackfin releases.

SHAC with Nick New took a chance and weighed in the only fish of the day a Bonita, which tipped the scales at 14lb. Well done Alan you beat your seasoned partners.

BAC on Playmate may not have weighed anything in as David had hoped, but they had 24 releases, all but one blackfin. Team member Eric has a new nickname - Rod Jumper. You gotta be faster Mark.

Goombay Hookers with Sinclair Lambe drew a blank and the final team in 2 DW Squared with Peter Olander had a blackfin release by Neil.

Represenative from Fisheries came to the weigh-in to measure the fish for a stastistic program, and maybe down the rest of the days. They are trying to get to all the tournaments this year.

We also had reprentatives from bernews.com, a newonline 24/7 news network. Check out the interview with Wayne Booth. The story is published online within minutes of leaving the dock. Hopefully they will be down again to interview some more of you.

Steven came to Cindi's house to collate the results and this is what we have after the first day. High Point Team is BAC 3,600, followed by Foxy and The Stiff Rods 2,447, with Three Reel Anglers in 3rd , SHAC in 4th, Two DW Squared in 5th and Goombay bring up the rear. The respective boats that each team was on are in the same position.

Danny Fox is the high point rod for the day with 1,997 point, Eric Hershberg close behind on 1,650 and Mark Henneberger on 1,050.

Seems day 2 is going to be a repeat on the weather front but hopefully with a few more fish caught and thank you Peter for donating the tuna for the BBQ on Wednesday.

Tight lines to all, hope you're not too stiff.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum or two or three and you won't notice the rockin' & rollin'.

Barbara Cooper wanted to remind everybody who knew Gene Duval that June 7th was her birthday she would have been 67.
