Fish found in Bermuda
The waters around Bermuda hold game fish all year around, though species availability changes throughout the year depending on currents, availability of bait and water temperature.
The summer months are notable for calm seas and an emphasis on chumming. During this period Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna are among the most desirable targets.
In recent years Bermuda has also made a name for itself amongst those anglers chasing Blue Marlin. Marlin fishing in Bermuda is a summer time event. The average size of Blue Marlin in Bermuda waters is large by the standards of other marlin fisheries. Bermuda has won the Blue Marlin World Cup six times since 1985 and three years in a row in 2003, 2004 and 2005. There is often very good fishing for White Marlin too, with many Whites hooked by anglers trolling for Wahoo. Sailfish are caught in Bermuda waters, but they are only infrequent captures.
Bermuda is also a mecca for light tackle game fishing, especially during the summer months - Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna and Yellowfin Tuna are some of the sought after light tackle species. The Club's International Light Tackle Tournament (ILTT) is our flagship event for light tackle fishing with competing teams fishing for large pelagic fish using 12lb test tackle.
The spring and fall months can offer great fishing, especially for Wahoo - a common year round capture, with some of the larger fish in Bermuda waters weighing upwards of 100lbs. Often live baits fool the largest Wahoo. There is often a spring and fall pulse of Dolphinfish (Mahi Mahi) through Bermuda waters and while many of these fish are on the smaller side, lucky anglers sometimes end up tangling with a large Bull Dolphin!
Regrettably the winter months see a number of fishing days lost due to mid-Atlantic gales but when the weather allows the fishing can be very good indeed with captures of Wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna making for a great day on the water.
